The Research

Professor Gottlieb and his colleagues are conducting the first ever trial in humans to test immune cells (lymphocytes) that have been generated in the laboratory to fight fungus and are being given to patients with serious invasive fungal infections. Four patients on trial so far have received the cells and have shown excellent results in situations where the likelihood of recovery in each case is low. These highly encouraging results will be followed closely as more patients are recruited to the trial in this world first human trial.
