Dr Owen Dillon
Dr Owen Dillon is a research fellow at the University of Sydney working in the Image X Institute, a research group established to solve the challenges caused by patient motion during radiation therapy. Dr Dillon undertook his PhD studies in Mathematics at the University of Auckland where he developed algorithms to quickly and accurately solve the complex physics models that underpin medical imaging.
Since moving to the Image X Institute he has applied these skills to lung cancer radiation therapy imaging, developing algorithms for the ADAPT clinical trial that achieved 63% reduction in scan times and 85% reductions in scan radiation. Dr Dillon now does research on adding carbon nanotube based Quantum CT imaging to radiation therapy systems to enable 3D scanning at any moment during treatment, for faster and safer treatment delivery.
