Professor Stuart Maxwell Pitson

Stuart Pitson is Head of the Molecular Therapeutics Laboratory at the Centre for Cancer Biology, University of South Australia and SA Pathology, Adelaide. After gaining his PhD at LaTrobe University, he undertook postdoctoral positions at Wageningen University in The Netherlands, and the University of New South Wales, before moving to Adelaide in 1998 to begin his current research interest in examining cell signalling pathways driving cancer development and progression.

His work focuses on the targeting of lipid metabolism and signalling for therapeutic benefit in cancer and other conditions, and the development and use of advanced pre-clinical models for the evaluation of new approaches to treat acute myeloid leukaemia and brain cancers. He has authored over 170 papers and recently co-founded two spin-out companies, based on his research through separate multi-million dollar investments, to translate his research to the clinic.
