Dr Jenny Y. Wang
Jenny is Head of the Cancer and Stem Cell Laboratory and is a cancer biologist in the stem cell field. She returned to Sydney in 2011 following postdoctoral studies at Harvard Medical School/ Harvard Stem Cell Institute (2005-2011) with first-author publication in Science (IF 56.9), subsequently established an independent stem cell group at CCI/UNSW in 2013, and now relocated her laboratory to USYD in 2021. Her research program involves an interdisciplinary approach spanning validation of drug resistance and development of innovative stem cell therapies for blood cancer.
Since 2012, Jenny has received competitive grant funding of over 7.6 million as leading Chief Investigator from a diverse range of sources including NHMRC, ARC, Cancer Australia, Cancer Council, Cancer Institute, Leukaemia Foundation, Tour de Cure, Anthony Rothe Memorial Trust, as well as Leukemia & Lymphoma Society USA. Her grant-supported research has been published in leading journals, such as Cancer Cell(IF 50.3),Blood(IF 20.3), Leukemia(IF 11.4). Her PhD students and postdocs have received various awards/ scholarships/ fundings, e.g., two UNSW Dean’s Award for Outstanding Research, highly competitive fellowships (Kay Kendall Leukaemia Fellowship, UK and Cancer Institute NSW Fellowship), and conference awards including 8 Abstract Excellent/Achievement Awards at the American Society of Hematology (ASH) annual meetings. The research team has established longstanding collaborations with industry and clinicians to translate their research findings into clinical practice to improve cancer patient outcomes.
